3g / GPRS / EDGE

:-) -I have a 3G phone !!
:-I -They have an EDGE phone !!
:-( -You have a GPRS phone !!

These days everyone is conversing like above; and in INDIA even if these terms are not technically meant to people but everybody is aware that these two technologies influence the choices of their mobile phone. Lets know about these technologies in brief.

Both are the telecommunication technologies to transfer data.

3G:
from wikipedia :: is the third generation of mobile phone standards and technology, superseding 2G, and preceding 4G.
3G technologies enable network operators to offer users a wider range of more advanced services while achieving greater network capacity through improved spectral efficiency. It is often suggested by industry sources that 3G can be expected to provide 384 kbit/s at or below pedestrian speeds, but only 128 kbit/s in a moving car.

GPRS:
from wikipedia :: General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a packet oriented Mobile Data Service available to users of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). It provides data rates from 56 up to 114 kbit/s.

There is one more technology that is talked about many times with 3G is EDGE.

EDGE:
from wikipedia :: Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE), Enhanced GPRS (EGPRS) is a digital mobile phone technology that allows increased data transmission rates and improved data transmission reliability. It comes somewhere between 2G and 3G techonologies of data transfer and communication.

The information is good and how you have tried to show the difference between 3G,GPRS and EDGE is beautiful...even idea of spreading awareness on this subject is something which deserves appreciation.

but still its in very technical language...there are many people who will even after reading this wont understand what is the difference between GPRS,EDGE and 3G.

if you can add your generic knowledge or let me say in this word that if you put this in your own word so that some ordinary person can understand...then it will be excellent.

I have worked with all this technology and I can give you assurance that more than 95% of my clients were happy to buy a phone with 3G technology over GPRS but there were less than 2% who were actually aware of the difference amongst each other.

Overall nice job...hope to see those things next time..

this was hot topic in early 2008 but now people are not even saying a word on it.

i dont feel like they even need to write anything more on this.

and i dont even feel that it was just introduction. This guy have gone deep with figures and technology and you are considering this as intro? strange!!

anyways thanks for your feeds on my comment but i wrote only those things which i felt people are really looking for.

i dint said anything in oppose and to demoralized them,

i came to know that you are regular visitor of this site and let me tell you that i also want this ppl to grow, so i commented on it.

however i think its open conversation and everyone have right to express their feelings and thoughts.
